Homeopathic nux vomica 30c could be your best friend during the holiday season. The most prominent indication to taking the remedy is overdoing it with food and alcohol. I am not giving permission for people to over eat and drink during the holiday season but if by chance you do, I suggest taking 3 pellets under the tongue before you go to bed and immediately when you get up.
Happy Holidays!
The other day while my daughter, Merrin was grooming her ( well she wishes her) horse, she asked me to grab her camera out of her backpack. While, I was searching through all her books, I noticed a few things.
It was a moment of true parental satisfaction. The moment where all you teachings about certain things come into fruition.
She had a homeopathic Belladonna ( she sometimes gets headaches - middle school thing), Arnica and a tube of Arnica cream.
She is being proactive in her health. I love it. I want to send her off in the world knowing that she knows how to keep her body healthy and what do do if she gets sick. She is already doing it.
Happy mom!
On October 1st, my little Pearl begged me to take out all the Halloween stuff. This is her absolute favourite holiday. She was due on Halloween but didn’t come that day but she still stakes claims on it.
I grabbed the neighbours 6 foot ladder ( yes I am married to a general contractor but we have no ladder…?) and off to the attic I go. When I am poking my head into the dark space , I noticed a brown box and remember that is one of the Halloween decoration boxes. I go to grab it not noticing ( or really seeing ) the iron metal spider web wreath for our door, on top of it. The minute I grab the box the wreath comes full force towards me. It was a short distance and I had absolutely no time - it hit me just above my cheek bone. And it hurt and Pearl gasped.
Down the ladder I came as my husband walked in and saw my bloody face. He wondered about stitches but I was more worried about a black eye ( but happily relieved it didn’t hit my eye!). I went straight to my medicine cabinet, grabbed homeopathic arnica ( 200c) and arnica cream. For the next 2 hrs, I took the arnica pellets and gently rubbed the cream into my very tender cheek. I was absolutely astonished ( as I always am when I truly put homeopathy to the test) that after 2 hours, I had no bruising or swelling. It is still sore but I am so relieved not to have a blue and black cheek and eye.
Everyone needs arnica in their medicine cabinet. I see arnica, over and over again, work these amazing miracles with kids ( and now me!).
Off to the store you must go or to Emerson Ecologics on my site!
Be well,
The other week while I was in a store promoting my book, HBD: The Lucky Escape, a gentleman approached me and asked what “online school” I went to for natural medicine.
Hmmmm…I thought as I explained to him that I received my bachelor’s degree in pre-med and then went on to spend five years at an accredited medical school, National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon.
I realized that it might be important that I explain the difference between an “online school” and an accredited school in a blog. Not only do licensed naturopathic physicians (N.D) have far more education, we have years of clinical experience, which is vital to treating patients.
I highly suggest that people seek out licensed N.Ds and ask for verification. N.Ds may be members of the American Association of Naturopathic Medicine. This is a great place to find a N.D. close to where you live. There are now many accredited schools in North America:
Be well,
Merrin has had growing pains since her second tooth came in at six months. The gum was blue and bulging…it was terrible. Her doctor suggested homeopathic arnica, so we gave it to her and it worked! Amazing homeopathy is!
As she has been growing up, she has had many nights that she wakes up in terrible leg and foot pain. At the beginning it was horrible. I would run to her room and then grab the arnica cream and pellets. I would rub in the cream into the pain and give her some of the pellets. She would immediately calm down and fall back to sleep. I eventually found homeopathic eupatorium ( go to EMERSON to purchase!) to work even better that arnica. Now beside her bed, she keeps arnica cream and eupatorium. If she wakes up with leg pain, she takes care of it herself.
Perfect…I really want her to become more proactive in her own health and giving her the tools makes it an easy transition.
Be well,

We just returned from a short trip to the mainland and I realized it would be a good idea to share some of my thoughts on keeping healthy before and during a trip.
About a week before we leave, I start adding some “Berry Well” powder to our smoothies or yogurt. It has some herbs in it that help keep the immune system toned and happy. I also have us all take Probiotis Pearl ( Pearl loves these - maybe because of the name!).
When we travel, I always bring some Children’s Glycerite or NF’s Echinacea/strawberry chewable tablet and the Probiotic Pearls. Sometimes I will even have the kids take one dropperful of the glycerite or one chewable a day just to keep them strong.
I also pack a few homeopathics like arnica (for bruises and bumps), belladonna (for a fever), and ipecac (for throwing up). And of course some Wise Woman Herbal all purpose salve.
I figure if I am missing anything thing I can go to the local drug store.

These can all be purchased through Emerson Ecologics in my Shopping Supplements page. The access code for Emerson is 96743.
Be well,
The first time I heard about homeopathy was in the book, Little Women. In the story, one of the sisters had a fever that they were trying to treat. They spoke of cooling her feet (oh yes, hydrotherapy as well!) to drive the fever from her head to her feet and they had a homeopathic book that was helping them decide which homeopathic remedy to give her. I believe they gave her Belladonna.
My first personal experience was at school. I had some friends who were focusing on homeopathy so I let them, actually it was just one friend, practice on me. A homeopathic doctor will take many notes with their patient about the strange questions he or she is asking. For example, from which side of the bed you sleep on to fears and aversions to food. With these clues or rubrics the doctor will use with a homeopathic repertory book which holds thousands of rubrics that the doctor matches up to your rubrics. It is quite a process that can take some time but very much worth it.
I first used homeopathy with Merrin when she was a few months old. She was a big happy baby (first rubric), but she didn’t move around a lot (in fact she never crawled - second rubric). She had one thing going on that worried me as a first time mother. She didn’t poop much ( third rubric)! I decided to take her to the doctor and after much discussion we gave her a remedy called calc. carb. This worked because by the time we got home her diaper was full and we never had a problem again.
I almost always give a remedy when the kids are sick along with herbal tinctures. At times, the kids have only taken the homeopathic remedy. It has always helped!
