I like these types of articles. Lists with foods we could be eating more of or ones not to be eating so much of. It encourages me to cook more of the super nutrient packed foods….like swiss chard which I love and so does most ( not so much Pearl) of my family.

Looking down the list, I see beets on the very top. Uggggg. I think my mom tainted me from beets for the rest of my life. I have tried them in many different ways ( and if you have a recipe that you think I couldn’t resist, please send it!) but nope, I have never been able to eat them.
Next time I head to the market, I am going to get some cabbage and dried plums. Cabbage, I know will get eated and if I wrap up the dried plums in some prosciutto and baked them, I think my family would love it.
Bring on the new year with some new ( or more of) these great foods!

When I spent my months in Kenya, I loved my trips to the local grocery store. It was always a fast and easy shop ~ there were basically no choices and I truly appreciated that!

Back here in the states there are many and many choices in the grocery stores and while I appreciate most choices, some I just do not get. When I stumbled upon this article in the Washington Post, I visioned the long aisle of toilet paper (tp) in my local store. I do not think there is even a choice for environmental friendly tp.
After reading through the article, I am thinking I really need to buck up and seek the out the friendly stuff. For one reason, my kids need to realize that soft tp is not so healthy for the environment and comfort can slide with this and second, anything I can do to help with the forests and trees I am all for.
So my question to all of you readers is… If you use environmentally friendly tp which brand do you buy?

When I go to the grocery store, I have a strategy. I shop the periphery first. The periphery of almost every grocery store is where you find the fresh produce, fish and meats, and the refrigerated items.
Once you start going up and down the aisles, you are amongst the world of processed foods. I do purchase some of these foods – like pasta and nuts and seeds, but my goal is to fill my cart with the freshest foods first. I have noticed that it makes for a faster shop too which I really appreciate!
